FILTER Gave Me What I Want!

This morning, the day after St. Patrick's Day, I awoke to a sight I did not like...snow. I am ready for spring and warm weather. But after posting a few pics of the dreary day online, some sunlight broke through for me on officialfilter.com... I saw this promising album cover, Filter The Sun Comes Out Tonight...and then I saw a track listing, and release dates, and a FREE download of a new song as an appetizer. I eagerly grabbed my ear buds and entered my email address to receive the mp3 of "We Hate It When You Get What You Want." My ears were stimulated by a variety of sound effects, a thrashing guitar riff, and alternating screaming, melodious vocals that can only come from Richard Patrick's mouth. This song and news made my whole day better, quite the sunlight coming out of the dark... And it's still pouring down rain outside by the way, but I don't care now.

If this song is the appetizer, I am salivating for the main course. This song reminds me of my favorite Filter album, Title of Record, with its wonderful mix of electronics and rock, all thrown together in a blender, like a luscious smoothie to my ears. Sorry, I've been on a homemade smoothie kick lately, might explain the metaphor there. And this first taste is not to be mistaken with the first SINGLE "What Do You Say," which will be released April 2. The album will also be available for pre-order that same day. The official release date for the album is June 4.

Oh and to finish my little story of the day, after listening to this song twice, I immediately burned it onto a CD so I could put it in my car. Yes, I'm old skool, and my 2002 model car does not have an mp3 hookup. So I blasted this on my lunch break and after work in my car. Dare I say I may have taken a cruise around some back roads, despite the nasty weather, just to blast it a little bit longer...

New York, NY (March 18, 2013) – Filter will make their Wind-up Records debut with the release of their sixth studio album, The Sun Comes Out Tonight on June 4, 2013.  Recorded in Los Angeles at Blue Room Studios with producer Bob Marlette, The Sun Comes Out Tonight follows 2010’s The Trouble with Angels. The band’s decorated history also includes such platinum and gold recordings as Short Bus(1995), Title of Record (1999), The Amalgamut (2002) and Anthems for the Damned (2008).

The album was written and recorded by leader Richard Patrick and guitarist Jonny Radtke, as well as collaborator Marlette.  The first single,“What Do You Say” will go to rock radio on May 7, 2013.  Fans can get a free track, “We Hate It When You Get What You Want” today, March 18, 2013 through Filter’s website.

Formed in 1993, Filter has enjoyed significant success over the past two decades.  The band released their critically acclaimed first albumShort Bus in 1995, a disc Rolling Stone praised as “a timely combination of grunge heat and industrial ice.” Fueled by the top 10 hit “Hey Man Nice Shot,” the album rocketed to # 3 on Billboard‘s Heatseekers Chart and went on to sell more than a million copies. They raised the bar with 1999′s Title of Record which featured the top 10 rock hit “Welcome To The Fold” along with a blockbuster crossover smash in “Take A Picture,” a song that shot to # 3 on Billboard‘s Modern Rock Chart, # 7 on its Adult Top 40 Chart and # 1 on its Dance Music/Club Play Chart.
